October 8 #2

Ended up with a busy day today, so time for another post.  Also sipping on a beer in the flat.

Went out and bought a tube pass for the day. Then found a Sainsbury's to shop at.  Sainsbury is a chain with 'local'' stores which are about like 7-11; they also have bigger stores, more similar to our grocery stores.  Did some of my shopping there.

Back to the flat to unload and then off to Trafalgar Square via the Tube

The obligatory picture of Nelson's statue.

The crowd in the square with the National Art Gallery in the background.  A good singer and some protesters on the plaza

(For some reason I can't overlap photos as I used to.  Will continue to play with the s/w)

Into the National Art Gallery where I was completely overwhelmed.  There are a 'zillion' rooms in the gallery, and no doubt I missed many of them.  Add to that the fact that I am not an art efficianato, and I couldn't do the gallery justice.

This is one that really stuck me - The execution of Lady Jane Grey, by Paul Delaroche.

Another one I took a photo of, as well as the description plaque beside it:

Unfortunately, I couldn't align it with the picture.

A very large and impressive alterpirce.  Lots of these in the gallery.

Monet is an artist that I am a bit familiar with, so here is one of his.

That's enough for the National Museum.

Took the Tube back by a slightly different route.  It was getting toward rush hour, so it was busy.  One of the problems I have is that, after climbing down multiple staircases and/or elevators my sense of direction gets confused and I don't know which platform to go onto.  So far I haven't gotten onto a train going in the wrong dirction.

Bets that it will happen?

Good news - on the way back I found another, better grocery store called 'Waitrose.'  it's also a shorter walk to the flat.  Was able to get a dinner salad that was roughly equivalent to one from Eat Fresh in P'ville.

Ending today on bad news:  I lost my Wordle streak!  With all the travel and time zone changes I never did yesterday's Wordle and the Wordle gods have no mercy.  It will take me months to recover (Boo Hoo, eh?)
